Takoradi Port has completed a capital dredging programme that deepens its approach channel and turning basin, allowing larger offshore support vessels serving Ghana's Jubilee and TEN oil fields to call at the port without tidal restrictions that previously limited access at certain drafts.
The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority said the works were timed to be finished ahead of the period when offshore activity typically increases, giving supply-base operators more flexibility in scheduling vessel movements between the port and the fields.
Local logistics operators welcomed the completion, noting that Takoradi's role as the main onshore support base for Ghana's offshore oil and gas sector has grown steadily since production began, with warehousing and quayside space around the port now largely built out.
